He sought care from a chiropractor who did not recognize the signs and symptoms of a cervical spinal cord injury. Worker's compensation sent him to an orthopedic specialist who also did not recognize the symptoms. He eventually had spinal cord surgery but was placed on heavy pain medication due to spinal cord damage. He suffered an accidental overdose and died.
